Mayo AC were in action in a number of events over the week-end. In the fifth annual Cloonacool GAA 5km, Anthony Flannery (Clonliffe Harriers ) was the winner in 17:03. He caught up with Anto Devaney (Mayo AC ) at the 4k mark, and there were just four seconds between them at the finish. David Kearins (Sligo AC ) was third in 17:49. Sean Murphy came home in sixth in 18:59, and like Anto he was sharpening up ahead of the cross-country championships in Dunboyne on Sunday where he will be part of Mayo AC's Masters team.
Other Mayo AC members finishing were Patricia Carty in 23:45 and Tom Hunt in 21:15. In the Gort 8k, Ann Lennon won the women's race, finishing in seventh overall in a great time 30:48 and with just 30 seconds between the first three women. This was her third top three finish in 8k races in the past month and her best time so far this year over the 8k distance. There were 174 finishers in Gort, led home by Matt Bidwell (GCH ) in 26:04. Mark Fitzgerald finished in 45:15. There was more club success in Saturday morning's Parkrun’s event. Paula Prendergast was first women in Marlay Park, Dublin in 19:12 (274 participants ). Brendan Gill ran a Parkrun PB to win at Westport in an excellent 17:19. Michael McNeela was sixth, 19:46, with Jimmy Feeney seventh 19:58 (52 participants ).
