Gills Driving School, part of the Gill Group, located at Church Road, Ballina, Co Mayo, has been in business for over 40 years. Initially driving tuition was for the car only, then rigid, artic, minibus and coach were added. Now Gills Driving School is one of the biggest fleet trainers in the country. They have added all the following to their suite of services and are continually updating existing courses and adding new services to cater for demand in the transport industry. They offer courses in fleet training, defensive driving, advanced driving, occupational and eco driving, 4x4 on/off road, trailer towing, forklift training, evasive driving, occupational first aid and a refresher course in digital and analogue tachograph covering driving hours, rules and rest periods, analogue charts offences and penalties for not keeping in order.
Gills also offer Drivers CPC course for truck drivers and train approximately 17 per cent of all drivers in the country. They offer courses in Mayo in Ballina, Castlebar and Belmullet. They also offer the course in a number of centres around the country in Sligo, Galway, Limerick, Tralee, Thurles, Arklow, Longford, Cork, Kilkenny, Roscommon, and Carrick-on-Shannon.
Other training offered by Gills include safe loading and cargo securing, and Gills is the only certified company in Ireland to provide the International Road Transport Union training and certification in this area.
Gills also provides a equine transport certificate course, which is required of any person who transports a horse over a 65km journey in connection with an economic activity.
