At the West Mayo Fianna Fáil selection in Mulranny on Friday night, four candidates were selected by the party to go forward for May's local elections. Westport Town will have two candidates with current town councillor Brendan Mulroy and newcomer Joan Geraghty getting the nod. They will be joined on the ballot by Lousiburgh's Tommy Joe Jennings and Paul McNamara from Achill. The party still have to select one more candidate from the Erris area for this constituency with the Erris convention taking place on Monday, February 17. Fianna Fáil will go into the election with two of their most experienced councillors opting not to stand this time with both Westport based Margaret Adams and Achill's Michéal McNamara deciding not to run.
