Mayo singers have been asked to fine tune their talents in the search for Ireland’s greatest cover version.
Aspiring stars have until midnight tonight to get their entries in for the Le Crunch Apple of My Eye song contest.
Apple brand Le Crunch has once again teamed up with popular Breaffy man and radio presenter, Keith Cunningham, from Today FM’s The KC Show, and asked singers all over the country to send in videos of themselves performing a cover version of their favourite song.
Simple recordings of the cover version, using a laptop, phone or camera, will suffice.
Last year, almost 1,000 budding artists of all ages, from eight to 80, took part and the competition was eventually won by Mullingar man Nathan Johnston with a cover version of ‘I Wanna Be Like You’. He scooped the top prize of €8,000.
After the competition closes tonight at midnight, a judging panel will select the top 10 entries and the public will then vote on their favourites.
The five best performing artists will go on to perform live on stage in top music venue The Sugar Club in Dublin and their performance will be broadcast to 150,000 listeners on The KC Show.
The judging panel this year includes Royseven and RTE star Paul Walsh along with songwriter Roisin O.
Le Crunch’s Sandrine Gaborieau, marketing director, said: “Following the immense success of last year’s competition, we are delighted to bring another talented Irish singer to the national limelight and award them a cash prize that could help in developing their potential to go on and do great things.’’
KC said he was impressed with the variety of songs, assortment of ages and overall talent on display in last year’s competition.
“We’re hoping we can go even further this year in our search for something special and invite everyone who has ever tried their hand at singing a song, no matter what it is, to get involved,” he added.
Le Crunch Apple of My Eye entries can be submitted online at www.ouitolecrunch.com until midnight tonight, February 7, and the competition final will take place at The Sugar Club on March 7.
