The county's road safety officer Noel Gibbons has paid tribute to a Mayo mother who became a public voice for families bereaved by road deaths.
Mrs Ann Moran, Westport, passed away early this week following a short illness.
Mrs Moran had become well-known in recent years for her campaign to promote road safety following the death of her daughter Regina in a road collision in 2002.
She bravely shared her personal experiences at local and national road safety events, making powerful speeches to thousands of teenagers around the country, imploring them to be careful on the road and avoid becoming “another statistic”.
The Road Safety Department at Mayo County Council expressed their sympathies to the Moran family and praised Mrs Moran's great courage and bravery in speaking publicly about the tragedy her family faced.
