Former Supreme Court Justice Catherine McGuinness, chair of the expert panel which will report on underground route options for Grid West, says she will be convening a meeting of the panel as early as possible.
Mrs Justice McGuinness met with Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte, on Friday.
Minister Rabbitte said the expert panel will ensure studies on underground options are “complete and objective and are comparable to similar studies of overhead options for the two projects”.
The panel will not look at the potential health effects of electro-magnetic fields (EMF ). Instead, the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government will engage expert assistance to review and report on international developments on any potential health effects of electro-magnetic fields emanating from transmission grid infrastructure.
