Ballina woman gets driving ban for leaving scence of accident

A woman who crashed into a parked car in Ballina town in the small hours of the morning and left the scene of the accident has been put off the road for one year.

At Ballina District Court, Judge Denis McLoughlin also imposed a €250 fine for the hit and run charge against Sharon Conlon, 4 Mosgrove Village, Ballina.

Conlon collided with a parked car on Barrett Street, Ballina, at 4 am on July 21, 2012. She left the scene and parked her car a short distance away.

Gardaí found the car later that morning and brought it away for technical examination.

Conlon contacted gardaí later in the afternoon. She said she had crashed her car and couldn’t locate it. She said she hadn’t reported the accident because she had no tax or NCT.

Solicitor for Conlon, Michael Bohan, said all damaged caused to the struck vehicle was paid for.

The driving ban is to commence on April 1.
