Car crash survivor and undertaker to deliver hard-hitting road safety message

An undertaker and a car crash survivor are amongst those who will deliver a hard-hitting road safety message to Mayo teens next week.

Mayo's road safety officer Noel Gibbons is once again hosting the AXA/Mayo Road Safety Roadshow in the TF Royal Theatre on February 6.

The roadshow graphically depicts how a night out ends in tragedy for one young driver.

The family of a road traffic accident victim and emergency service workers will also help to bring teenagers face -to-face with the real-life consequences of road carnage in a bid to encourage them to stay safe behind the wheel.

Mr Gibbons said the show has been running in Mayo since 2007. “It depicts graphically how a night out ended in tragedy and permanent disability for one young driver,” he explained. “The roadshow is aimed at transition year students and the objective of the show is to encourage young drivers, and those about to commence their driving career, to adopt a more responsible attitude in terms of their own driving behaviour.

The 90-minute show starts at 10.45 am on Thursday, February 6, in the TF Royal Theatre.
