Row with boyfriend leads to court appearance

An intoxicated woman who was arguing with her boyfriend in public faced public order charges at last Wednesday’s District Court sitting in Castlebar.

Garda John Murphy responded to a complaint on July 13 at 8.28pm that a woman was fighting with her boyfriend outside a bar in town.

On arriving at the scene Mary Maguire, 64 Lakeview, Castlebar was observed shouting abuse at her boyfriend. The defendant was asked to calm down and leave the area, however she failed to do so,

Solicitor for the defendant, Ms Linda Lenehan, said that the woman, who had consumed a number of drinks as it was the Connacht Final, has no previous convictions.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy ordered that if Maguire paid €200 to the poor box the Probation Act would be applied. The defendant paid the money during court proceedings.
