Westport councillors call for Minister Hogan to resign

Westport Town Council's Cllr Brendan Mulroy has called for the resignation of embattled environment Minister Phil Hogan.

The Fianna Fáil councillor proposed the council call for the Minister's resignation at their monthly meeting on Thursday evening.

Minister Hogan has been heavily criticised in recent weeks over the Irish Water consultancy fees and bonuses revelations.

Fianna Fáil's Cllr Margaret Adams seconded the motion. “This Irish Water thing is out of control,” she said. “It's a total disgrace.”

Cllr Martin Keane also supported the motion.

Fine Gael members said they could not support the motion.

Instead, Cllr Myles Staunton said he had to point out Fianna Fáil's own policy failures and wasteful expenditure while in government.
