Men shouted abuse at gardaí after vehicle was seized

Two men who shouted obscenities at a garda after one of the men’s car was to be seized, with the owner of the car refusing to hand over his keys, appeared at Castlebar District Court last week.

Garda John Murphy outlined to the court that while trying to seize the car of Jake McBride, 23 Drumconlon Close, Moneen, Castlebar, for having no tax on his car, the defendant along with a passenger in the car, Shannon Keoghane, 18 Hollow Grove, Castlebar, became agitated and called the gardaí w**kers and pr**ks and also said to them “have ye nothing better to be doing”.

McBride refused to give keys to the vehicle and Keoghane failed to leave the vicinity.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy adjourned the matters to March 4 2009 where a probation report has been sought on both of the men in relation to separate charges following their appearance at the last sitting of Castlebar District Court.
