Swinford election candidates to benefit from 505 more voters

Council candidates in the Swinford electoral area will benefit from 505 additional votes in the next local election due to the amalgamation of Aghamore into the area.

That’s according to Mr Paddy Mahon, director of services for the area, who added that there would also be one additional polling station in the Swinford area.

The addition of Aghamore to the Swinford area midway through the year should have implications on the 2009 roadwork scheme, but in order to avoid confusion it has been decided to develop a 12-month scheme based on the existing electoral boundaries. The directors of services for the different areas have met to discuss the transition period and it was decided to develop one annual roadwork programme based on the old boundaries rather than two six-month programmes.

However, planning applications will be dealt with in the new areas immediately after the local elections.
