Mission: Slimpossible! challenge launched in Ballinrobe

Three sports clubs in Ballinrobe are going head-to-head in a novel weight loss fundraising challenge.

The Mission: Slimpossible! battle will see members of the town’s rugby, soccer, and GAA club compete to shed exess weight and raise funds for their clubs in the process.

Twenty members of each club have signed-up for the eight-week campaign, overseen by Motivation Weight Management, who are donating their expertise and personnel for the slimming challenge.

Members of the public will be able to buy a forecast ticket for €5 and make their predications on which club will be crowned weight loss champions.

“There are a number of angles to Mission: Slimpossible!” explained Peter McHugh of Ballinrobe RFC. “First off, it is a weight loss, wellbeing, and fitness campaign for all of the 60 people involved, with weekly weigh-ins and training sessions, plus a number of other fun events over the eight weeks.

“Secondly, it is an opportunity for all three clubs to raise funds, with supporters given the opportunity to back their favourite participants. Thirdly, there are prizes for those who buy tickets in support of the event.

“And, fourthly, the event will also be used to raise money for a worthwhile local charity, Friends of Grace.”

The competition kicked off on Tuesday and will conclude with a gala charity night in the Valkenburg on Friday March 14.

Robin Smith, from Motivation Weight Management, said he was delighted to be involved in such a “worthwhile, fun idea”.

“This community based event is going to help raise money for local clubs, a charity, and also to help 60 people get closer to their healthy weight,” he said.

Lakeside Sports & Leisure Centre is providing its facilities and the services of its coaches free of charge to support Mission: Slimpossible!
