Mayo property prices still falling

Residential property prices in Mayo are still falling with the average asking price for a home now standing at just over €116,000.

That is according to the 2013 House Price Report, published this week by property website Daft.ie

However, Mayo is faring better than other western counties and the rate of decline in property prices is slowing significantly.

Property prices here fell by 7.5 per cent last year, compared to 20.5 per cent in the last quarter of 2012.

In Sligo last year, prices fell by 9.5 per cent. Leitrim shows a 12.1 per cent decrease while Roscommon shows an 11.7 per cent decrease. Property prices fell by 7.6 per cent in Co Galway and four per cent in Galway city.

Falling property prices in the western region contrast starkly with double digit growth in Dubin, where property prices went up by 11 per cent.

In Connacht 31 per cent of houses on the market are now finding a buyer within four months, compared to 25 per cent last year.
