Arlene McGrath from Rossport South, had a very happy Christmas winning €43,000 in prizes including a Opel Insignia car on the National Lottery’s Winning Streak TV game show last Saturday night (December 28 ). The NUIG science student who is specialising in the study of physics won her place on the show thanks to the kindness of her family. According to Arlene, she was given three or four Winning Streak scratch-cards by her father, brother, and grandmother a few weeks ago as they took pity on her, being a poor student, and the lucky three stars came up on one of them. Arelene lives with her parents Padraic and Patricia in Rossport and comes from a family of four, with two sisters and a brother, who is currently travelling in Asia. She said that she plans to spend her winnings on further education and plans to do a master’s degree after she completes her undergraduate studies. She brought a good luck charm in the shape of a medal her late grandfather, who passed away in early 2013, had given her and his luck certainly rubbed off on her on the show.
