Some of the county’s best known buidings and landmarks - and many hidden archicturual treasures - have been recorded in a new survey of the county’s built heritage.
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny launched the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH ) Survey of Co Mayo in Turlough recently.
“Everything of interest - even down to the county’s post boxes - has come under scrutiny lest their value be overlooked and lost to future generations,” said Mr Kenny.
The survey includes information about the county’s large estate homes, thatched cottages, monuments, and mills.
Mayo is the 31st county survey to be published in the series, which is identifying, recording, and evaluating, Ireland’s post 1700 built heritage.
The survey is available on the NIAH website at www.buildingsofireland.ie
