Edgy writers needed for Claremorris fringe

The Claremorris Drama Festival Committee is looking for new scripts for their fringe festival next April.

The scripts must be 15 minutes long and must be new, original work that are previously unpublished and unperformed.

“We’re looking for contemporary work,” said John Corless, director of the fringe.

“The fringe serves to showcase new writing and new writers. With that in mind, we’re looking for fresh ideas and fresh approaches.”

“The Dalton Inn venue is great. It is ideal for experimentation with space. It gives writers the opportunity to examine the relationship between performance and audience and to challenge established thinking and practice. It’s an exciting opportunity and we, as organisers, sincerely hope writers and, in turn, directors will avail of that opportunity and be brave.”

The 2014 fringe festival will be held from April 4 to 11, 2014, with two plays performed each night.

There will be a first prize of €500 for the writer of the best play with the runner-up getting €250.

Local drama groups will perform the plays and there will be prizes for best actor, best production, and five other special awards.
