A trio of businesses which came together to promote adventuring on Clare Island has won a national award.
Outsider Magazine, which showcases all that the great outdoors has to offer, named Clare Island Adventures the Best Outdoor Escape for 2013.
The island escape beat off 11 others in their category to win the top honour.
Adventure experiences on offer on the hilly island, which was once the home of pirate queen Grainne Úaile, include snorkelling, hillwalking, rock-climbing, and abseiling.
Clare Island Adventures is a joint venture of Adventure West, Go Explore Hostel, and Clare Island Ferry Company.
The three companies came together at the beginning of this year to pool their resources and promote all the island has to offer.
Carl O’Grady of Go Explore Hostel collected the award. He said he was overwhelmed at the support Clare Island Adventures received during the voting campaign, which decided the winner.
“We are absolutely thrilled and we are very thankful to everyone who voted. Clare Island Adventures represents three small teams of people who came together with a common aim. We are all passionate about what we do.
