Calvary, the new John Michael McDonagh movie featuring the musical score composed by Claremorris-born Patrick Cassidy, will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Park City, Utah, on January 19 2014.
Set in Easkey, County Sligo, and starring Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd, Aiden Gillen, Pat Shortt, and Kelly Reilly, Calvary is writer and director McDonagh's next big movie hit in waiting following the success of The Guard, which was also filmed in the west of Ireland.
Patrick Cassidy, based in Los Angeles, is looking forward to the first screening of the black comedy drama Calvary in his adopted homeland, and will attend the event saying; "John Michael McDonagh had once again produced an excellent movie and I am delighted to be a part of it. After its showing here in the US, I look forward to coming home for the Irish premiere."
Calvary tells the tail of Father Lavelle who is a good man intent on making the world a better place, but he is continually shocked and saddened by the spiteful and confrontational inhabitants of his small country town. One day, his life is threatened during confessional, and the forces of darkness begin to close in around him.
