Roundfort-Hollymount Flood Mitigation Proposal

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring and Councillor Patsy O’Brien met last week with Jim Ryan from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS ), Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht, and officials from the OPW in relation to the Roundfort-Hollymount Flood Mitigation Proposal.

A lengthy discussion took place in relation to the constant worry and concern people have in this area with the threat of recurring flooding. Both Minister Ring and Cllr O’Brien outlined very strongly and in a forthright manner the worries of the residents.

Each time there is heavy rain, the residents are concerned that their homes will be flooded again. Minister Ring and Cllr O’Brien believe that this issue could be resolved with a small amount of money.

The OPW has agreed that by the end of the year, it will have a plan in place which it will submit to the NPWS for consideration.

Both Minister Ring and Cllr O’Brien spoke of the urgency in resolving the ongoing flooding issues in this area and sought an update on the proposals in the New Year.
