Castlebar based Fianna Fáil councillor Blackie Gavin has welcomed the completion of the new link footpath between the estates of Moat and College Woods on the Castlebar road at Balla.
Cllr Gavin said that the provision of the footpath will be of great benefit to local residents and will eliminate what could have been a death-trap for pedestrians. “Up to now, people had to take their lives in their hands along the busy N60 between these built up estates and the town of Balla. Residents have been campaigning for several years to have something done to make the road safer for the large number of pedestrians who use this route on a daily basis,” he said.
Cllr Gavin continued: “I am delighted that my representations have been successful and that this serious accident hazard has been finally eliminated.”
