Kiltimagh receives funding for support for older people

John Curran TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for Community Affairs and the National Drugs Strategy at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, has announced the provision of funding for a further 51 community and voluntary organisations under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People, with Kiltimagh in line to receive €985.30.

The scheme is funded by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and is administered by local community and voluntary groups. It is based on the concept of contact with people at local level in order to assist and stimulate broader community support for older people.

Funding under this scheme allows community groups to provide socially monitored alarm systems, and security equipment such as sensor lighting, window locks, door locks, door chains and smoke alarms to vulnerable older people in their communities.

Announcing the funding Minister Curran said: “At this time of year, with long winter evenings, older people can be very conscious of safety and security issues. This funding affords the opportunity to community and voluntary groups to bring the benefits of added security and peace of mind to older people in their own homes.”
