The Newman Institute are embarking on a very popular fundraising event on Saturday, November 16 in Hotel Ballina. Sixteen budding dancers have volunteered to compete for the prestigious prize of winning champion of the dance floor competition. The couples have been involved in an intensive dance training campaign for months under the stewardship of choreographer and dance instructor Marie Brennan. The main sponsor for the event is Paddy Connolly 4x4, Killala Road, Ballina. Each dancer has also secured a sponsor for raising funds. Proceeds from all the fundraising organised by the Newman's Institute's fundraising committee will go towards establishing a student bursary as well as contributing towards the running costs of the Institute.
The Strictly Come Dancing contestants are Ian Kilroy and Jennifer Plunkett; Caroline Morrow and Derek Leonard; Marian Hannick and John Cavanagh; Hazel Kearney and Tommy Peyton; Claire Keating and Tommy Fleming; Marie Forde and John Joe Kelly; Beatrice Cheetham and Jodie Beattie; Paul Brennan and Maura Barrett. Each couple will dance three dances on the night and compete for a fantastic prize which was commissioned for the Newman Institute and sponsored by Galway Crystal.
