More progress on decentralisation to Charlestown — Ó Cuív

The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív TD has welcomed the next step in the process of decentralising his Department to Mayo.

“I am delighted to see that the Office of Public Works has advertised today for expressions of interest from those who wish to be included in a tender selection process for the design and build of the new Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs headquarters in Charlestown. This is yet further proof that the decentralisation programme, a key policy of this Government, is alive and well and progressing.

“While I was disappointed An Bord Pleanála refused planning permission for the original location at Knock Airport, I was determined that the department would relocate to Mayo. The Government selected Charlestown as an alternative location, as it is both close to the airport and on the Western Rail Corridor. Work is ongoing on the procurement of a site and today’s call for expressions of interest brings us another step closer to our goal. I am sure that the 100 members of staff who have already relocated to Connacht in anticipation of the opening of our new headquarters in Mayo will join me in welcoming this progress.”
