A 19-year-old Lithuanian who stole vodka and champagne from two stores in Castlebar while he was drunk appeared before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
Marius Sukys, 111 Aglish Estate, Castlebar removed items from Dunnes Stores, Castlebar at 4.10pm and 6.45pm on August 27—a total of four bottles of vodka were taken.
Three months later on November 29 the defendant removed two bottles of champagne worth €40 and €44 from Hanleys, Station Road, Castlebar.
Solicitor, Cathy McDarby, said that the laid-off stonemason has been living in Ireland for three years and barely remembers the incidents as he was drunk. The property was recovered in both incidents.
Judge Aeneas McCarthy ordered that a probation report be sought and adjourned the matter until March 4 2009.
