Klass kids Halloween camp

Klass kids Halloween camp will take place in Breaffy GAA Clubhouse on October 29, 30, and 31 from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Children will love the spooky scientist, exploding pumpkins, make your own slime, creepy cookery classes, making mummies, traditional Halloween games, and more spooky surprises. Craftworks Mayo members are now getting ready for their Christmas Expo 2013 which will be held in the Wyatt Hotel, Westport, on November 15, 16, and 17.

Féile John McGrath

A host of admired and respected speakers covering topics from emigration to poetry to musical roots will entertain audiences this Friday and Saturday October 25 and 26 in the splendid surroundings of Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, as part of the annual Féile John McGrath weekend organised by Westport branch of Comhlatas Ceoltóirí Eireann.

The féile, now in its fourth year commemorates the life and legacy of the influential Mayo musician and composer John McGrath. There is a fun filled and varied programme of events over the two days including lectures, music and dance sessions, traditional singing, drama, poetry readings and art and craft exhibitions.

Book, clothes and furniture sale

This sale will take place on Saturday October 26 and Sunday October 27 in St Anne's boxing Club, James Street Car Park, Westport.

Doors open 10.30am to 4pm each day. All proceeds to help United Christian Aid bring a truck with much needed aid to Moldova.

Scrap metal collection

Facefield National School, Claremorris, parents’ association is holding a scrap metal collection this weekend to raise money for new computers for the school. It takes place at Facefield School on Saturday October 26 from 11am to 5pm, and Sunday and Monday from 1pm to 4pm.

Introduction to basic healthy cooking for men

Join Angela Geraghty for some simple tips and cooking demonstration on how to cook a selection of simple healthy meals. These cookery classes for men will take place on Thursday November 7 and 14 at 7pm in the Irish Wheelchair Centre, Logmore, Belmullet. Free of charge

This men’s health promotion initiative is delivered in association with the Men’s Shed, The Men’s Community Initiative and The Hope project.

Mayo ICA

Mayo Irish Countrywomen’s Association is celebrating The Gathering Ireland 2013 on Sunday October 27 in the Fr Peyton Centre, Attymass, commencing with Mass at 1pm, dinner at 2pm, followed by music and dancing.

The Children’s Book Festival

The Children’s Book Festival is one of Ireland’s biggest arts festivals, with hundreds of free events celebrating children’s book happenings nationwide in bookshops, libraries, schools, community and arts centres.

Mayo County Library is running a number of events throughout the festival. The festival culminates with a visit by international best-selling children’s author Karen McCombie to Castlebar Library on November 15 and to Westport on the 16. There will also be a number of local events including competitions, games, and activities in various libraries throughout the festival. Contact your local library for full details of all events.

Exhibition in Cong

A new exhibition of paintings by the artist Nicolas Richard is currently running at Rare And Recent Books in Cong. The exhibition is open daily (including weekends ) from 10.30am to 5.30pm until Thursday October 31.

Ballyhaunis Alzheimer Café

The Alzheimer Café is a safe, relaxed, place where everyone affected by Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, or any other type of dementia can come along for free tea/coffee, cakes, educational talks, and friendly chat. The next cafe will meet in the communal building, Clare Court, Ballyhaunis, from 11am to 1pm on October 30.

Westport Country Markets Ltd

On Thursday October 31 Westport Country Market Ltd invite everyone to a Witches’ Coven Halloween Party in the Boxing Club, James Street Car Park.

There will be free face painting, story telling and treats for the children. Go along in fancy dress. Adults can enjoy tea/coffee and tasty treats in the market café while children listen to stories in the ring.

Mayo stroke support group

The Mayo stroke support group in association with Croí will hold its next meeting on Thursday October 31 in the Tennis Club, Castlebar, between 11.30am and 1pm.
