Gills Driving School (Ballina ) was recognised for its initiative in offering road transport operators with an International Road Transport Union Certified Training Course on safe loading and cargo securing at last week’s Fleet Transport Awards in Dublin.
Tiernan Gill received the overall Safety Award from Deirdre Sinnott of the Health and Safety Authority at the Fleet Transport Awards 2014 gala dinner held at the Citywest Hotel, attended by 760 representatives from the Irish road transport industry.
Earlier in the day Gills Driving School presented two live load safety and cargo security demonstrations at the venue to highlight the importance of safe loading and correct method strapping of loads with appropriate restraint equipment conforming to EU standards.
A delighted Tiernan Gill said upon receiving the award: “We are extremely pleased to win this prestigious national title which will help us move forward in promoting this IRU SLCS course and conform to the Health and Safety Authority’s new load security programme.”
