Worlds of Music is an innovative and engaging performance by a range of musical communities at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Friday November 8 at 8pm.
Celebrating music from around the world, Worlds of Music features performances involving groups including people with disabilities, who have worked in collaboration with professional artists. The first half features a percussion piece created specifically for the event through a workshop and rehearsal process led by well-known percussionist Robbie Harris, working with service users from Western Care and members of the general public. Members of the award-winning Soundscape music programme for people with intellectual disabilities from Galway will also perform a colourful version of the ancient epic Hindu tale The Ramayana with live accompaniment of music and sound effects performed on the instruments from the Indonesian gamelan and wayang tradition. The second half of this show will feature community music making group Gamelan na Gaillimhe playing a repertoire of classical and contemporary Javanese music played on a stunning collection of 20 bronze percussion gamelan instruments from Java.
