Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring has welcomed the announcement that Minister Phil Hogan has given sanction for South West Mayo Development Company Ltd to approve funding of €207,292 to Newport and District Development Company (NADDCo ) for the development of a greenway activity park (GAP ) in Newport, under the Basic Services for the Economy and Rural Population measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
Minister Ring said: “The funding is sought towards the development of an activity park on a site adjacent to the local national school in the village of Newport. The park is also adjacent to the route of the Great Western Greenway cycle track, and facilities to be provided include a multi-use games area, a community gym, an astro-turf pitch, and ancillary landscaping with finishing works.”
He concluded the “project will now go back to the Board of South West Mayo Development Company Ltd for the final approval on the project.”
