Irish Water has announced details of its metering roll-out in Mayo which will see the first water meter installations commence in Castlebar in the week commencing October 21.
Meters will be installed outside domestic residences on the public water mains over the coming months. Advance notification of at least 14 days will be issued to each householder before meters are installed with information packs outlining the details of the installation process. There are no upfront costs for meters and water charges are due to be introduced in Q4 2014 with first bills issuing from January 2015.
Commenting on the start of meter roll-out in Mayo John Tierney, managing director Irish Water said: “Over recent months, we have been working closely with Mayo County Council to ensure that plans are in place for the efficient and managed rollout of our water metering programme. I would like to compliment the Mayo County Manager, Peter Hynes, and his staff for the highly professional manner in which they have helped us prepare for this programme. We are committed to installing water meters with minimum inconvenience to householders and communities across Mayo. We look forward to working with them to ensure minimum disruption as we carry out our work in the coming months.”
Water meters will be installed in the hours between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday and each water meter installation will take from 15 minutes to two hours. Meters will be placed in a meter box, which will be fitted underground outside the homeowner’s property. Installers will have official Irish Water identification, will wear branded uniforms and will never ask to enter people’s homes.
