Westport House will hold an Open Day kicked off by a special ribbon cutting celebration to mark the opening of their new town centre gate and ticket office at 1pm on October 20.
All are welcome to join in the family fun, visit the historic house, try an adventure activity, boogey on down or watch some show jumping between 1pm and 5pm. Participants are also invited to make a donation to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice and to enter to win a raffle for 20 season memberships for 2014. In further celebration, Westport House is offering 20 per cent off any 2014 Season Memberships bought on the day.
Sheelyn Browne, managing director, Westport House said: “We are delighted to re-instate the direct link from the town to the estate – after 60 years—as it was originally and historically intended. Visitors, and even some locals, aren’t aware of just how integrated the town and estate truly are. When we explain that the town encircles the estate and that visitors have passed along the periphery on their way to meet us, they are amazed! We are grateful to everyone who worked together to make this happen – without the support of the local Church Lane residents and businesses, South Mayo Development Company and Westport Town Council as well as the hard work of our own team, Axo Architects and Lumouy Construction, it would not have been possible.”
She added: “It’s a shining example of how Westport’s community spirit rallies behind a good idea and an opportunity to grow the town. And so, on October 20, we look forward to welcoming the community to celebrate and to raising some much needed funds for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice.”
