Local food producers win top awards

Local food producers in Mayo have been awarded top honours at this year’s prestigious and hugely-acclaimed Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards, which were hosted this in Dingle, Co Kerry over the weekend.

The producers and their sumptuous products were selected by a panel of 350 judges and were chosen from a huge entry of more than 2,000 products from across the country. Local winners include: Billy’s Bakery, Ballina who took the bronze medal in the Other Breads category for their Rustic Olive and Rosemary Bread and gold for their Guinness and Beer Bread as well as silver for their Gluten Free Brownies. Just Baked/Just Desserts, Ballina won gold for their Guinness and Baileys Gateau and gold for their Yeast, Dairy, and Wheat Free Soda Bread. O’Hara’s of Foxford won bronze for their Signature Tastes Christmas Cake and William Carr & Sons won bronze for their Specially Selected Hot Smoked Salmon.

Blas aims to recognise passionate, dedicated producers who create high-quality food and drinks and who are serious about marketing their fantastic products to markets at home and around the globe.
