Older people’s groups in Mayo to benefit from funding

Thirty-two older people’s groups in Mayo are among 723 groups nationwide to share an allocation of €350,000 under the eighth Go for Life National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People.

Máire Hoctor TD, Minister of State, Department of Health and Children with responsibility for Older People, announced details of the allocations last week under the Go for Life national grant scheme, which aims to help local clubs and organisations to increase opportunities for their older members to actively participate in recreational sport and a range of physical activities.

Welcoming the funding, which totalled €17,100, an increase of 15 per cent on last year’s allocation, Mayo Sports Partnership Co-ordinator Charlie Lambert said: “The aim of the funding is to help local clubs and organisations to increase opportunities for their older members to actively participate in recreational sport and a range of physical activities. We are particularly delighted that eight more groups received funding under this year’s scheme.”
