One hundred and fifteen personal injury awards in Mayo during first six months of the year

Mayo saw 115 awards made to personal injury claimants, totalling €2.8 million, during the first six months of this year, according to mid-year figures published by the Injuries Board this week.

The average award in the county from January to June was €24,956, and the Mayo awards accounted for 2.18 per cent of all awards made by the board.

Nationally, €118 million in compensation was delivered to 5,286 claimants during the first half of the year, representing an increase of 8.3 per cent on 2012.

Road traffic accidents continued to account for the majority of personal injury claims according to the mid-year report, and represented over three quarters (75.5 per cent ) of awards around the country. A total of 16.4 per cent of awards were for accidents in public places, and 8.1 per cent related to workplace accidents.

The Injuries Board makes statutory personal injury awards in respect of motor, employer, and public liability accidents.
