Friday, October 11 sees Ballina Art Centre hosting Beatle Mal - a one-man show written and performed by Nik Wood-Jones, a life-long Beatles fan. This play provides great entertainment and is perfect for lovers of Beatles music and 1960s pop culture. The meteoric rise to fame of the Beatles began in 1963, so exactly 50 years on it is quite appropriate that this new imaginative drama, with original music, should be presented to a wider audience.
This touching and funny play tells the story of Beatle roadie Mal Evans, but he was much more than just the big guy who lugged the gear from venue to venue, he was a close friend who travelled the world with the Fab Four and took part in their recording sessions. He was there when they met Bob Dylan and Elvis, when their lives were threatened in the Philippines, and when they studied with the Maharishi in India. This play puts Mal Evans centre spotlight for a change and offers a completely different perspective on the Fab Four. Admission is €15, with the show starting at 8pm.
