Calling All Mayo book lovers – your local bookshop needs you

What is it you love about your local bookshop? Is it the great advice, the friendly welcome, discovering that ultimate read, or that touch of magic you get from a half hour well-spent in a haven of words?

For Irish readers it is all of the above and more, and now is the time to show your support by voting for your local bookshop in Mayo as the Bord Gáis Energy Bookshop of the Year is launched.

There are more than 300 bookshops in Ireland and this competition, now in its third year, recognises the importance of bookshops and the central role they play within communities all over Ireland.

Book lovers all over Mayo are being asked to vote for their favourite bookshop at www.BGEbookshopoftheyear.ie until October 18. Voters will be in with the chance to win great prizes.

A shortlist of five bookshops across each of the five regions will be announced with the other Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards categories on October 31 with the winner announced at the ceremony on November 26.
