Mayo getting good at glass recycling

Figures released by Rehab Glassco – Ireland’s largest glass recycling company – to mark Repak Recycling Week ( September 30 to October 6 ), show that in the first eight months of 2013, 42 glass bottles and jars were recycled per head of population in Mayo. This figure is just above the national average of 41 bottles and jars per person.

“We are now good at glass recycling, we need to aim to be great,” says David Farrelly, operations manager with Rehab Glassco.

In the period from January 1 to August 31, 1,639 tonnes of glass were collected in Mayo for recycling. The busiest site in the county was once again Dunnes Stores in Ballina with 103 tonnes deposited in the bottle banks provided.
