RTÉ Big Music Week is a week-long celebration of the best of Irish music beginning next Monday September 30. For the fourth year running, RTÉ Big Music Week celebrates the very best of home-grown musical talent by bringing live performance to audiences across Ireland and all over the world; on radio, on television, online, and on mobile. This year, in partnership with Irish Rail, Big Music Week is covering the breadth of the country on a bespoke music train.
The music train will arrive in Westport on Wednesday October 2 at 7.20pm where it will be greeted at the station by the Clew Bay Pipe Band, accompanied by young local musicians. This event is free and everyone is invited to join in.
From 8pm, in Matt Molloy’s Pub, Sharon Shannon, Mundy, Matt Molloy, Laoise Kelly and lots of local talented musicians will be playing a one-off free gig, broadcast live on the John Creedon Show on RTÉ Radio 1.
However, if dance music is more your thing, secure your place for Jenny Greene’s ever-popular Electric Disco, in Westport Train station at 9pm. To be there, just email [email protected]
Finally, before the Big Music Week departs the west, Marty in the Morning on RTÉ lyric fm will be broadcasting live from Westport Train Station from 7am on Thursday October 3. Marty will catch up with Declan O’Rourke, Brendan Graham, Laoise Kelly, and more for wonderful live music and all are welcome to drop down to this live broadcast.
Wherever you are, the Big Music Week train offers the chance to be part of the action and share in some memorable musical collaborations as the activities of the week are carried on RTÉ broadcasts and online throughout the week.
