The 2013 Mayo Emigrant Liaison Committee’s annual Irish Diaspora Awards are to be dedicated to the memory to the late Sheila Gunning, Bangor Erris and Dublin.
She was an outstanding supporter, with her husband Val and sister Evelyn, and Dan Davis of the work of the MELC.
The award winners will be announced next week. The presentation takes place on Saturday September 28 in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar.
Guest on the evening is Joe Kennedy, Knight commander of St Gregory and chairman of Ireland West Airport Knock.
The event will start with a drinks reception at 7.30pm, with dinner at 8.30pm. Music will be provided by the Brose Walsh Band. Tickets are €40 and there are overnight accommodation rates from €40 per person sharing.
