Two years off the road for not having insurance

A woman was put off the road by Judge Mary Devins at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday for not having insurance.

On November 12 2012 at 11.01pm, Garda John Melia observed Winifred McDonagh, with a listed address at 20 Cherrington Place, Castlebar, drive through a red light at Linenhall Street, Castlebar.

The garda stopped her. McDonagh did not have insurance or a driving licence and did not produce these documents at the Garda station within 10 days. A fixed charge notice was issued for driving through the red light, however this was not paid.

McDonagh has one previous road traffic conviction.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined her €250 for not having insurance and disqualified her from driving for two years. Driving through the red light was taken into consideration. For not having a driving licence she was convicted and fined €100.
