Mayo’s most famous fan, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, stands to win €10,000 for the Irish Heart Foundation should his home county finally win Sam in this weekend’s All Ireland final.
The Fine Gael leader placed the €500 bet at odds of 20/1 with Paddy Power at the official opening of the bookmaker’s new Clonskeagh headquarters in October of last year.
A spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “I doubt Enda Kenny will need any added incentive to get behind the Green and Red but I’m sure he’ll be only too happy to take us to the cleaners for the sake of a good cause!”
Aidan Stacey, head of fundraising for the Irish Heart Foundation, said: “As a Dublin based office we’re very conflicted ahead of the final, but no matter what the result we’ll have something to celebrate and we’d like to thank both An Taoiseach and Paddy Power for their generosity.”
