A man who was caught using green diesel in his car was convicted and fined €2,500 at Ballina District Court this week.
On April 20 2012 at 10.05am a Customs officer took a sample of diesel from a parked car on Cathedral Road, Ballina.
The car which belonged to John Kearney, Cloonalaughan, Carramore Lacken, tested positive for marked diesel.
The defendant said that he couldn’t afford to buy diesel at the time as he was unemployed. He has since got rid of the car as he could not afford to keep it.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €5,000 which was mitgated to €2,500.
