Peugeot will showcase its latest new models and innovations to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show, including the new 308, the thrilling 308 R Concept, and the new RCZ R sports coupe. Also, on display will be the astonishing 208 T16 Pikes Peak car, a 2008 hybrid air concept and the 208 hybrid FE demonstrator. The range of new vehicles will be complemented by new BlueHDi models, featuring Euro 6 diesel emissions control technology, available from the end of 2013.
The new 308 hatchback will be the star attraction on the Frankfurt stand and nine examples of the five-door range will be available for visitors to see. This stunning new compact family hatchback features a refined and contemporary exterior design, a revolutionary and intuitive Peugeot i-cockpit interior, and an exceptional feeling of quality and sophistication, all backed by a range of modern and fuel-efficient powertrains. The new Peugeot 308 goes on sale in Ireland in January 2014.
Also making its world debut is the Peugeot 308 R Concept, a radical sports car. With its lowered posture, wider track, prominent haunches, and dramatic 19" wheels, the 308 R Concept makes a real statement of intent. Its carbonfibre two-tone skin conceals a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine developing a considerable 270bhp, also fitted to RCZ R. To exploit its full potential, the 308 R Concept has front-wheel drive transmission through a TorsenTM differential and very large brakes.
Peugeot will also use the Frankfurt Motor Show to unveil its new RCZ R, a super-performance version of its popular sports coupé and the most powerful production model in the history of the Peugeot marque. Boasting class -leading levels of power and efficiency, the RCZ R 1.6 litre 270bhp (199kW ) accelerates from 0 to 100km in less than six seconds, but emits 45g/km of CO2, a benchmark in its category.
Developed in conjunction with Peugeot Sport for use on a circuit, the RCZ R will also be comfortable and easy to live with off circuit. It is docile and responsive enough for everyday use, registering 6.3 litres/100km consumption, a benchmark in its category. The RCZ R will go on sale across Europe at the beginning of 2014. Order books for the Irish market will open in December 2013.
Crowd pleaser
One of the Frankfurt crowd-pleasers will undoubtedly be the accomplished Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak challenger that demolished the previous Colorado record.
An amazing 25 years after the first victory of Ari Vatanen and his 405 T16 in the mythical American trial, Sebastien Loeb smashed records for the Colorado ascent in just over 8 minutes in the 208, powered by a 3.2-litre 875bhp V6 twin-turbo capable of 0-100km/hr in just 1.8 seconds.
With more than 28,000 customers worldwide already, Peugeot will display its hybrid diesel electric hybrid range at Frankfurt. Alongside this successful range will be an exhibition of the brand's new hybrid air system, which combines a petrol engine and a compressed air powertrain capable of achieving in excess of 2.0 litres/100km (141mpg ). The 208 hybrid FE concept, developed by Peugeot in partnership with TOTAL, will also take to the stand. This car emits 49g/km of CO2, yet can accelerate from 0-100kph in 8.0 seconds, almost the same as the 208 GTi.
Peugeot will also reveal its new BlueHDi diesel emissions control technology on the new 308 and 508 SW. Combining selective catalytic reduction and diesel particulate filtration with additive, the system reduces NOx emissions by up to 90 per cent to optimise CO2 emissions and fuel economy while eliminating 99.9 per cent of particulates. Peugeot's BlueHDi technology already complies with the Euro 6 diesel standards and will be extended from the end of 2013 to all of the marque's diesel models.
