Autumn competitions get swinging

Balla

The team of PJ Brett and Mick Mellett won the yellow ball competition last weekend, Margaret Walsh and Marie Flanagan finished in second with the duo of Walter Barrett and Padraic Cuffe finishing in third place. Cuffe also landed a hole in one on the sixth.

Ballina

Denis Bourke won the President’s Prize (Des Farrell ) with a score of 65, Bernie Lawrence finished second with Bernie Lawrence third, Noel Maughan came home in fourth place and Brendan Kilgallon was the gross prize winner. The Nevada Bob’s sponsored singles competition was claimed by Ciaran Allen with Enda Jones finishing in second and Joe Cox in third place. In the ladies’ competition Elaine O’Hora’s 66 nett was enough to win out in front of Rita McGoldrick in second and Dolores Tuohy in third place.

Ballinrobe

The Anglers Rest sponsored competition was claimed by Kevin Finnegan with a score of 41pts, Gary Faherty finished in second, Tom Hughes was in third place and Michael C Burke was the gross prize winner. The ladies competition was won by Darine O’Leary with a score of 40pts, Pat McDonald finished three points behind in second place and Frances Burke was in third. This Sunday, it’s a singles stableford competition for both gents and ladies.

Castlebar

Patricia Walsh, hosted her 2013 Lady President's Prize last Saturday and while the weather was very wet with pretty much constant rain throughout, this did little to dampen the enthusiasm in the club and in the competition as there was a fantastic turnout of ladies to play and keen interest in winning the beautiful prize Patricia had put up.

Most people agreed that the weather conditions would favour more the lower handicap player and this turned out to be the case at the end of the day. The winner of the 2013 Lady President's Prize was Sheila Baynes who had a great score of 68 nett. Sheila can now add the 2013 Lady President's Prize to the 2013 Lady Captain's Prize which she won last July! Carmel Moran took second place with a great score of 69nett and Connie White won the gross while Derval Molloy took third place on a score of 71 nett.

Claremorris

Last weekend was the President’s Prize (Danny McHugh ) and Ronan Gurren was the winner on a score of 61nett, John Haverty came home in second place and Tom Fanning took third place. The gross competition was claimed by John Killeen thanks to his back nine play. The ladies’ competition win was taken home by Marie Healy, with Emily McHugh taking second and Noreen McHugh claiming third place on the day.

Mulranny

The Mulranny Am-Am concluded last Saturday and was a resounding success. The precedes of the weekend’s golf will be shared equally between Rock Rose House, Castlebar and the golf club. The winning team in the gents’ competition was Eamon Mongan, Joey McDonnell, Brian Ainsworth and Ray Prendergast, with Breda Gilvarry, Gina Kelly, Kay Mulroy and Evelyn Duggan taking the ladies’ prize. With only one quarter-final slot (Colin Cooney ) filled in the Autumn Cup, players are asked to complete their matches without further delay.

Westport

Last weekend’s Golfer of the Year event was won by John Allen, with Padraig Kilcoyne finishing in second place and David Scott in third place. Liam Halpin took the gross prize, with Ronan Hehir the category one winner, John Gibbons category two and Brendan Burns the category three winner.

This Sunday is the final qualifying round of the gents’ Golfer of the Year competition. Double points will be on offer for the top 30 golfers. The qualifiers for the Golfer of the Year final will be announced at the prize presentation on Sunday night next at 8pm. The ladies’ competition last weekend was claimed by Michelle Finnegan with a score of 36pts, Kate Rooney finished in second place and Patricia Kelly in third.
