Eoghan Grady, a member of Castlebar Swimming Club was selected to represent Ireland at the European Junior Lifesaving Championships which took place in the Adriatic resort of Riccione, Italy last weekend. He secured a silver medal in the beach run and surf swim at his debut in European competition.
In doing so, Eoghan helped his team mates to sixth place overall from a total of 15 European teams including Germany, France, Spain, Great Britain, Sweden and hosts Italy.
The selection process entailed regular travel to Lahinch, Co. Clare for trials for the Irish Junior Lifesaving Squad in both pool and beach events. The top four boys and girls, including two wildcards, made the final team of 10 and Eoghan secured his place with the highest points total overall.
