Belcarra Gathering events

Tonight (Friday August 23 ) the Gathering Mass will take place in St Anne’s Church, Belcarra. Following this at 8.30pm there will be a display of Golden Jubilee Apostolic work and refreshments in the community centre. From 10pm there will be a traditional music session with John Kilkenny in Flukies Cosy Bar.

Tomorrow, August 24, a handball exhibition will be in Belcarra Sports Centre from noon until late. A BBQ and community dog show in the village caravan park from 4pm to 6pm. Mass will be held at 8pm and music and sing along in Tuffy’s Pub, Doonamona from 10pm.

On Sunday August 25, registration will take place at 10am in the community centre for a 35k and 70k cycle race. The event will start at 11am. Music that night from 10pm in Corley’s Bar and Lounge.

From 11am to 12.30pm, on Monday August 26, there will be a guided riverside walk from the community centre and a visit to the eviction cottage. A racquetball, badminton, and volleyball exhibition will be displayed in Belcarra Sports Centre from 6pm to 10pm.

On Tuesday August 27 at 5pm, there will be a guided tour of Sean and Terri Mitchell’s exhibition garden at Deerpark (€4 ). Walk down memory lane and visit Belcarra National School from 7pm to 8pm. In the community centre from 7pm to 8pm there will be a White Tigers karate exhibition and from 9pm a table quiz will take place (€20 ).

A guided walk of the village taking in Arcadia Ballroom, the forge, and shoemakers shop will depart from the community centre on August 28 at 11am (finish at 12 noon ). On the Main Street from 6pm a re-take of the Tidy Towns photo (1988 ) will happen. The night from 8pm to 10pm John Kilkenny’s traditional school of music will perform in the community centre.

At 4pm on August 29 in Bridgemount there will be a talk on the late Dame Judy and William Coyne. Tag rugby for fun (16 years and over ) will be held in Belcarra Church field from 7pm to 9pm, and from 9pm to 1am there will be a ceili and set dancing in the community centre.

Finally, on August 30 from 8pm to 9pm, local authors Jim and Michael O’Connor, Tully talk on the Belcarra evictions (1880-1890 ) in the community centre. Later there will be a dance in the Arcadia Ballroom.
