Marathon and triathlon to cause traffic disruption for Mayo fans

Supporters making their way to Croke Park for Sunday’s big games may want to leave some extra time for their journey or choose an alternative route, with two major athletics events taking place between Mayo and Croke Park. The annual Longford Marathon is scheduled to start on Sunday morning, with a route that will include the Tarmonbarry to Longford road which will be a main artery to Dublin for Mayo supporters. The marathon will see competitors setting off from Longford between 8.30am and 10am, with an expected finishing time of between 1pm and 4pm for all competitors.

In Dublin city the 25th annual Dublin City Triathlon is also taking place on Sunday in the vicinity of Chapelizod and the Phoenix Park. There will be road closures in place up to 2pm in the area. Restrictions on Chapelizod Road between the Chapelizod Gate entrance to the Phoenix Park and the Islandbridge exit to the Phoenix Park will be in place from 7.30am to 1.30pm. All Dublin Bus services will continue to operate along the route with minor delays. Any cars travelling west from Islandbridge to Chapelizod village should divert via Inchicore Road - Sarsfield Road - St Laurance Road. Any cars travelling towards the city centre should use the Chapelizod bypass, alternatively divert via Inchicore Road to Sarsfield Road and St Laurance Road.
