Some 250 new residential and commercial buildings were recorded in Mayo for the first six months of 2013, according to new figures released today by GeoDirectory. The figures represent a year-on-year decrease of 36 per cent compared to the same period in 2012 when 392 new buildings were added to the county. The total number of new residential and commercial buildings recorded across the country in the first six months of 2013 was 4,220. The figures represent a continuing year on year decrease of 25 per cent compared to the first six months of 2012, when 5,620 new buildings were added to the database.
GeoDirectory was jointly established by An Post and Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi ) to create and manage Ireland’s only complete database of commercial and residential buildings. The figures are recorded through a combination of the An Post network of 5,600 delivery staff working with OSi. The new data shows that 402 or 9.5 per cent of this new commercial and residential stock is vacant. The vacancy rate for new building additions in Mayo is eight per cent.
The 250 new buildings identified in Mayo consist of 211 residential buildings, 31 commercial buildings, and eight dual-purpose buildings with both residential and commercial elements. These new additions bring the total number of buildings in Mayo to 70,462.
