Support for survivors of child sexual abuse

Share— the support group for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, will be recommencing shortly after its summer break. The group meets every fortnight at the Ballina Family Resource Centre and is facilitated by local psychotherapist Melanie Bracewell and Nick Groom, himself a survivor of childhood sexual abuse.

“When we started in February we had no idea just how needed this service was in the west of Ireland” said Melanie Bracewell. “It is incredible to think that in such a short space of time we have helped so many people from Donegal down through Mayo to Galway.”

The group is free and runs on a closed basis. “We felt that confidentiality and creating a safe space was essential” explained Nick Groom. “That is why anyone wishing to join the group is asked to contact either Melanie or myself first. We then meet for a very informal one to one chat just to explain how the group works and to see whether the person is comfortable working in a group setting.”

Anyone who wishes to know more about Share is asked to contact Nick or Melanie in strictest confidence on 087 227 9652.
