The Races of Castlebar - a three-race event for all abilities

The Races of Castlebar were officially launched on Thursday August 1. This series of running events has been organised as part of the In Humbert's Footsteps festival that will be held in August. It is a joint venture between Castlebar Tennis Club and Mayo Sports Partnership.

Sue Baird, chairperson, Castlebar Tennis Club, was very enthusiastic about the collaboration between the two groups. “We are delighted to be working with Mayo Sports Partnership on The Races of Castlebar. With their expertise and steering, I think that we will have a very enjoyable series of races over the next few weeks.”

Her sentiments were echoed by Anne Ronayne, Community Sports Development Project Worker, Mayo Sports Partnership. “It's great to link with Castlebar Tennis Club again and I think that we've developed an exciting, affordable event to encourage people of all abilities to take part, the event is ideal for walkers, joggers and runners and is one that we hope to grow over the coming years.”

The Races of Castlebar consists of a 5k, 7k and 10k run. The 5k run was held on Tuesday, August 6 at 7.30pm, the 7k will be held on Tuesday, August 13 at 7.30pm and the 10k will be held at 10am on Sunday August 18.
